He turned to training in 1991 and soon made an impressive impact, coming runner up to then Champion Trainer Martin Pipe for several years, starting an intense rivalry between the two men. To date he has over 1700 winners over jumps including the Cheltenham Gold Cup for the past three years with Kauto Star, twice, and Denman and has been Champion Trainer since 2006.
